Should middle and high schools sell junk food in the cafeteria, in vending machines, and at athletic events on school property? Should all junk food be eliminated from middle and high schools?
I think schools should be able to keep junk food in their vending machines and cafeteria. Students are always going to have the option of eating healthy if they want to, whether junk food is presented to them or not. I think students should have the right to have the choice of junk food at least available to them. They're kids, they deserve a little sugar.
No, junk food should not be eliminated. Students need the snacks to get through the day. Most of the junk food contains a lot of sugar to keep kids energized. Also, most kids i know do not even buy that much junk food at school. It is overpriced and you can get it for a lot cheaper in stores, and then bring it to school. As long as they stay active outside of school, students will stay healthy.
I believe that middle schools and high schools should be able to sell junk food but limit how much, and what is availble. Some food should definatley not be allowed but most I don't think is a problem.
I think that junk food should still be allowed in midle schools and high schools. I think that the students should decide if they want the option of healthy food or junk food. I think that students at midle school and high school already know how to make good choises for themselves.
I think that middle and high schools should not sell junk food in the cafeteria just because I believe that by not seeing all the junk food in the cafeteria students would be motivated and even used to to eat healthy thus decreasing the numbers in obesity. I think that they should sell it in the vending machines and at athletic events but at a higher price because if they really want to eat junk food they would buy it and if other students see the price they would think twice about the unhealthy choice they would make. I dont think that junk food should be eliminated from middle and high schools because kids do need sugar once in a while, but I do think that they should take it out of important areas like the cafeteria.
I think there should be no restriction on junk food in school cafeterias or vending machines, but there should be an equal amount of healthy food at the same prices. If schools remove junk food from the cafeterias and vending machines, it could start an underground black market by the kids who are obssessed with junk food. Students would sneak around trying to make a quick dollar off the others who need a candy bar or a bag of chips. Schools would then lose money to the students running the black market because nobody would want to use the vending machines anymore, which bring in tons of money to the school.
I think that they should not eliminate junk food, as much as people dont like them serving it. The schools that do make so much money off the vending machines. i do agree that there should be healthy altenatives. So the kids who dont want to eat the junk food can eat something healthy.
I think junk food should not be remove junk food from vending machines, school athletic events, and cafeterias because, the schools will lose a signaficant amount of money. Junk food at highschools and middle schools is partially what makes the students happy. Being able to have junk food for cheap is the students route to save money instead of wasting the money on healthier food. Vending machines are very useful in schools, I've even seen teachers going up to the vending machines to buy a bag of gardettos. It is a quick, cheap, snack that everyone can enjoy during the five minute passing period. Plus that money is most of the supply that we have in our "extra funds".
I believe junk food should not be eliminated from middle and high schools because students that age should have the option to pick weather to eat healthy food or junk food. A lot of times, students will buy candy or some form of sugar to keep them energized throughout their school day. Eliminating junk food from vending machines would cause many problems. I know this because at our school our cafeteria got rid of pop and now sell powerade zero, and I know many students that aren't happy with that change.
I think I will post what ever will stop us from complaining about what and what not living people can eat. You can put restrictions on smoking and drinking but guess what people are still going to do it.
I think there shouldn't be any restrictions on selling junk food in caffeterias and vending machines. If vending machines would get rid of all junk food, students will not stop at the vending machines during passing periods because there is nothing surgary and sweet to snack on. Also, the school would loose a lot of money because, aside from fund raisers, vending machine are one of top money makers in a school.
I do not believe that it is necessary to eliminate junk food from school vending machines or cafeterias. I think everyone has the right to eat what they want, and make the choice as to whether they would like to eat healthy or not. Eliminating junk food will really do nothing only because those who WANT to eat it will either bring it from home or just eat it after school anyways. If schools are concerned about the fact that 32.2% of adults in America are obese, then they need to put an end to it by informing students about healthy lifestyles, not forcing them to eat healthy foods. I also agree with Mr. Schwab, that by eliminating junk food, and underground black market will form, creating a dangerous environment for students, one full of dorito deals, and secret snicker passing.
I believe that students should have a choice in what they eat. While they sell mostly unhealthy food in vending machines, students can also opt to buy something healthier from the lunch line. The choice is ultimately up to the student, who can either think of the possible future consequences or choose to ignore them. I believe that humans as a species should learn from their mistakes, and not have to be guided by a higher power. If the student who chose to eat unhealhily during his high school years is now morbidly obese and in dire need of gastric bypass surgery, then so be it.
Well, i guess junk food is not as bad as not having no food at all. I mean the few healthy food they sell here in the high school is expensive and the junk food is a little bit less, so thats why people buy them! If they get ride of the machines people will pass their snack time or lunch time because food is just to expensive here in school.
I think that schools should keep selling junk food because that way make more money to be used around school. For example, new doors, new faster computers, more books, etc. Junk food is not as harmful as people think and it's not like the kids eat junk food all day. Therefore the money should be used for good use on the school.
What i think is that schools should have junk. Why? well because in life we have choices to make. We as students should be able to choose weather we want healthy choices or junk food. In all vending machines their is more then just unhealthy things. You have chex mix, you have the baked potatoe chips, also healthy fruit snacks. So everything in the machines isnt bad for you, Its your choice choose wisely.
No they shouldn’t eliminate junk food from school cafeterias and vending machines. The reason for this is that, schools will lose a great amount of money which then can go towards benefiting the school. Also some junk food here and there is not that bad, it’s more of a treat from school to students.
I dont think that junk food should be eliminated completely but i do think that it should be limited. People have a choice wheather or not they want to choose the healthy or unhealthy way of eating. Yes, this country is one of the fattiest, but it is all made by choice. People know the consequences to junk food.
I don't think that just because you get rid of junk food you are influencing us to eat healthy. I agree that we should be eating healthier but we should not get rid of other choices because it is unhealthy. We sshould be offerd choices because some of us don't want to be healthy and we don't like that food but that doesn't mean that some of us wont eat healtheir.
I think middle schools shouldn't get rid of all junk food because that would be unreasonable. Everything is about moderation. The schools shouldn't be overpouring with hersheys chocolate bars and glazed with caramel on the stairs, but they also shouldn't deprive kids of those delicious baked lays chips. Junk food is everywhere, chocolate, chips, or frenchfries. Eliminating them would decrease sales during school events and just be really unfun. The school should want vending machines, they can collect money. Obviously kids are gonna choose the convient bag of chips instead of a peeling orange during a football game. Instead of making huge gestures like banning junk food, why don't they instead inform them on healthy choices? Make it a part of gym. Explaning to students why something is bad is a lot more effective than just doing something and no explanation. Like Alina and Jose said, it's kids decision whether they want to eat healthily or not. They have the option to chose, it's just all about the decisions they're making.
